Alumasc Rainwater’s Guardian Aluminium downpipes have been used to provide a rainwater management solution that is both security sensitive and sleek to behold, for Top Hat’s winning “A Family of Four” project.
A win that’s generating even more conversation about the rise of modular construction, the development snagged the award for The Sunday Times Reader’ Choice Home at the prestigious London ceremony last week.
Each state-of-the-art home in this project leaves the factory with fully fitted bathrooms, kitchens and facades, and is lifted into place and installed on site. The design is based on “a family of four” building components that can be combined together in various configurations to make 130-sq-metre homes. The entire process is thoroughly quality controlled, with the objective of producing homes that are more user-friendly, energy efficient and quicker to build.
To avoid any damage to water management systems during the transit of facades however, the Guardian downpipe, made of extruded aluminium and moulded in a contemporary style, was mounted flush with the building fabric on site.
Ben Green, Divisional Marketing Manager at Alumasc WMS and Alumasc Roofing said: “We are delighted by this win. It’s a real demonstration of the growing interest in modular building and of the investment that the industry is dedicating to it, to ensure it ticks all the boxes for the modern homeowner.
“To have our Guardian downpipe provide a perfect solution for this development also demonstrates that expert water management designs have a place on modular buildings. Matching the overall building design that looks to the future of construction, the Guardian downpipe will provide a security solution to the traditional downpipe for up to forty years to come.”
Pete Hickman, Area Sales Manager (North) at Alumasc Rainwater said: “Alumasc was originally contacted by Modularise, the design team working with Top Hat at the time on this project. They were looking for a downpipe solution that would also be a valuable addition to the security of the homes in the development.
“With concealed brackets and jointing, the unique design of the Guardian provides a high level of security, making it the perfect option. It was specified with complete confidence, and Top Hat got in touch to place the order not long after.
“Profiles fit flush to the wall making them vandal resistant and ungrippable, while their clean external appearance, with no visible sockets or pipe clips, is conducive to a sleek, smooth overall look.”
Made from UK manufactured, extruded, 100% recyclable aluminium, Guardian downpipes are lightweight, non-corrodible and offer a life expectancy of 40 years in rural or suburban areas, and up to 25 years in industrial or marine areas.
Finished in house with a BBA approved powder coating process and available in 26 standard factory applied colours, the guardian offers safety, security and style. While also available in a plain mill finish for on-site painting, BS or RAL colours are available to special order.
