With the reputation of the illustrious Tottenham football club preceding it, the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is an emblematic building that has already secured its place as a sports stadium to be remembered.
It has also become one of the more renowned and iconic spaces to have benefitted from Alumasc WMS expertise, receiving the full ‘rain to drain’ treatment.
Comprising five core brands and more besides, Alumasc WMS was brought into the project to provide cohesive, integrated water management throughout the project. This eventually included the installation of Gatic Slotdrain systems, Gatic Access Covers and AssistLift Covers, Harmer SML below ground Cast Iron drainage and Wade floor gullies to ensure effective water management all round.
Completed in 2019, the 62,303-capacity stadium is one of the largest in the Premier League and the largest club stadium in London. The state-of-the-art sports and leisure centre can stage major events including football games, NFL American football games and rugby, as well as concerts and other non-sporting events.
Populous Architectural Design were the architects on the project, however, it was Buro Happold Engineering that specified Gatic Drainage and Access Covers, Harmer below ground cast iron drainage and Wade floor gullies from Alumasc WMS for the task.
“Gatic Slotdrain systems were specified for this illustrious project as the range was especially designed for integrated surface water management, to capture, control and return water run-off safely into the natural water cycle, which was exactly what this project demanded,” Ben Green, Marketing Director at Alumasc WMS explains.
“Gatic CastSlot and PaveSlot floor drainage had a unique specification requirement to be manufactured in grade 304 stainless steel as opposed to standard galvanised steel. We were able to rise to this challenge with no problem; Alumasc is equipped to manufacture any product to the exact specifications of the client.”
“The finish on all Slotdrain systems is very discreet, which is an essential requirement to respect the stadium’s beautiful aesthetic. Its unobtrusive profile sits neatly within concrete, asphalt and block surface finishes. CastSlot, in particular, is available with a unique tread safe feature, making it ideal for areas which will be subject to heavy footfall,” Ben explained.
Gatic Access Covers and AssistLift Covers were also specified for the project, based on Gatic’s extensive reputation for successful use around the world providing both to protect and give easy access to a diverse range of underground services. The more industrial specifications can handle F900 load class of loading weights of up to 90 tonnes, providing assurance and peace of mind. Because of this, it was sure to be a reliable solution for the stadium.
Designed both to protect and give easy access to underground services, Gatic Access Covers provide a cover and frame that is sealed against dirt and water and remains completely stable without rocking under traffic loads.
AssistLift covers facilitate one person opening of a D400 to F900 load rated ductile iron cover either as an individual cover or as part of a multi cover arrangement and were specified to further grant easy access to services in the future.
Harmer SML below ground cast iron drainage is a lightweight, dry jointed pipework system at the forefront of cast iron technology, allowing for direct connection from soil to drain to sewer. Manufactured and tested in accordance with BS EN 877, BBA Certified, CE certified and finally also bearing Kitemark certification, Harmer SML is a robust, lightweight and durable solution that is also non-combustible; fire protection collars are not necessary.
Finally, Wade stainless steel floor gullies were also installed, specified for their high corrosion resistance. These premium floor gullies are for use in high specification applications including food preparation areas, showers and areas where high corrosion resistance is a requirement.
